What's the difference between a Psychic and a Medium?

When it comes to psychics and mediums, there are a number of distinctions. One person can be both a psychic and a medium, but they are actually different things. Both psychics and mediums fall in the area of psychic services.

A psychic teller is usually someone that is adept at divination of some sort. They could be a magic teller, a love teller, a horoscope teller, a future teller or a palmist. There is also such a thing as a question teller who is a psychic that simply has the role of answering questions. Phone readers sometimes can do this or alternatively they might read tarot cards. Palm readers
and psychics who give you a tealeaf reading also qualify as being as psychics.

However, many psychics are also mediums and vice versa. Basically, a medium is someone who has the ability to channel spirits. Some mediums don't use any type of divination tool and they are considered to be among the best when it comes to psychic services.

A medium can have conversations with spirit voices; go into a trance and speak without knowledge of what is being said; allow a spirit to enter his or her body and speak through it; or relay messages from the spirits those who wish to contact them with the help of a physical tool. A table may be knocked on or an Ouija board may be used. Some mediums also practice automatic writing, which allows the spirit to write messages on pad.

Basically, medium ship is more specialized than just being a psychic. The practitioner is able to contact and host spirits. Mediumship
is practiced in many different religions including spiritualism, Christian spiritless, spirits, Voodoo, Hoodoo, Yorumba, Umbanda and Candomblé,

Most traditional African and African diasporic traditions include mediumship as a central focus of religious practice. However, it is also part of Japanese Shinto practice, which believes that the human spirit can be possessed by nature spirits. In Celtic traditions, mediumship is common but more so using tools. You see the medium contacting dead ancestors with the use of objects, such as cauldrons of waters or crystal balls. Sometimes, a circle is cast and the medium steps inside it to connect with the energies of the dearly departed.

There are also new age psychics and mediums that are more concerned with channeling higher energies than the deceased. This would include channeling the ascended masters, the archangels, saints, and other elements.
